We're focusing on Brassica whitefly for this week's #Fridaytip. Whitefly can survive the #winter on Brussels sprouts, broccoli, winter cabbage and kale.

These tiny, white creatures fly up in clouds when the plants are disturbed. Pick off infested lower leaves; the young #whitefly ‘scales’ live on the underside of these. Also pick off any cabbage white #caterpillars. #Fridaytip #whitefly

Our #plant of the week this week is the #Sorbus #aucuparia 'Fastigiata'.

You can find the Sorbus aucuparia in our Cooks Garden, displaying it's beautiful red #berries. The #Sorbus is a slow growing columnar tree that enjoys most soil types and is ideal for the smaller #garden.

Helen Pottinger broke her wheelbarrow 😮with her gaint pumpkin: "I planted one at my allotment and it weighed in at 7 and a half stone - or 105 pounds. I didn't know how we were going to lift it but eventually came up with the idea of enrobing it in an old sweatshirt, turning it upside down - and then two of us were able to lift it into the wheelbarrow by the arms! We managed to break the wheelbarrow in the process but did get it into the boot of the car and then used a saw to cut it into quarters back at home. So far, it has made 7 batches of soup, 6 pumpkin pies and a pumpkin and parsnip casserole = delicious! The remainder has been distributed amongst friends and neighbours and was very gratefully received!" ... See more
