VEG PLEDGE – WHERE TO DROP OFF

St Mary’s Church, Lowgate, Hull are receiving veg donations for the Freedom FEASTival from Thursday 23rd August. We are hugely grateful to the growers of Hull for their generosity. No donation is too small. If you would like to attend, text/call Kate 07545696007.

Events coming up!!

There is still time to sign up as a volunteer for the Freedom FEASTival. Our main induction event is Wednesday 25th August – 6.30-8.30 at the Afro Caribbean Centre,  25/26 Park Street, Kingston Upon Hull, HU2 8RR.

We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to join us for our induction/meet and greet session for the 2018 Freedom FEASTival, this event is open for all your fabulous people getting involved in this year’s FEAST’acular this September.

In the spirit of all thing FEASTival we are orchestrating a bring & share event at Hulls Afro Caribbean Centre, Park Street, Hull from 6.30-8.30pm this Wednesday, 25th June. We are asking everyone to bring dish of some description to share with at the event, whether a salad, dessert or something to pop on the BBQ.

There will be live music by Hekeima from the Afro-Caribbean Centre and soft drinks will be provided – anything else you might fancy drink wise do bring your own.

It’s should be a great opportunity to find out about the FEASTival roles and meet everyone involved in creating this year’s feast alongside fellow volunteers both new and old. There will be a short induction to the event, information about all the different roles, with breakdown of all the ways you can get involved. There will be opportunity to ask questions, meet your fellow volunteers, find out about the growers involved and share great food together.

This is an event for everyone! If you’ve signed up already or for anyone thinking about signing up, please  do feel free to bring along anyone you think might like to volunteer or would simply enjoy the experience!

Have you signed up as a FEASTival volunteer yet?? There’s STILL time!

INDUCTION 5:30 – 7pm Wed 16th August followed by a meal – cooked on site 7pm – 9pm Edensands Rd, Hawthorn Ave, HU3 5EG

Get to meet team mates – all Feastival volunteers invited! Bring an ingredient to cook with, seasonal if possible.  We’ll be cooking outdoors, and practising our repertoire forthe FEASTival on 3rd Sept!

Directions: take Ringrose St, westward off Hawthorn Ave. Go past Wheeler St School,  left at Callerton St, follow it to Edensands Rd.


We’re holding a number of events veg growing and food preparation events across Hull and East Riding in the build up to the Freedom Feastival on 3rd September. These are taking place in order to support our network of growers, to build our kitchen team and of course to promote the event. Come along and get involved! In addition to cooking and gardening, we also need people who can offer lifts/car share. Please let us know if you can help.

Harvesting masterclass + BBQ
Come to the first in our series of Freedom FEASTival masterclasses. Friday 11th Aug, 5:30 – 9pm at Frith Farm, Molescroft, Beverley. Learn how to get more from crops, how to get re-growth, and boost yield. It’ll be a great event – beginners welcome! Followed by barbeque in the beautiful surroundings of Frith Farm – bring food to share.


To get to Frith Farm:
Participants travelling by public transport, we can offer lifts to and from the centre of Beverley. For a pick up on the day call John on 07476 293999. Frith Farm is one mile from Beverley town centre. As this is a farm site we can only offer disabled parking on site for this event. We suggest that participants travelling by car find somewhere to park on the nearby industrial estate. The site can be accessed from the A1035 close to to the Swinemoor lane roundabout. Wednesday 14th June – East Hull Community Farm
1pm to 4pm – Planting out Feastival beds at East Hull Community Farm.  Address: East Hull Community Farm, Barham Rd, Hull, HU9 4EE.  Visit their website

Thursday 15th June – Keepmoat
4pm to 6pm – Revisiting the new Keepmoat allotment to water and earth up Feastival potatoes with volunteers and local residents. Edensand Rd, Hull, HU3 5EG. website

Monday 19th June – Arthur’s Organics
9.15am to 4pm – Tending to veg at Arthur’s Organics walled garden at Rise, HU11 5BN. Meet at Timebank office (lifts required). website

Thursday 22nd June – Pickering Road Community Orchard

Event details: Hull Friends of the Earth’s annual Fair has blossomed into a Spring event and we will be there! Come along to be a part of the biggest green gathering in Hull in 2017, come and get updated by the green network, eat some fantastic food from Timebank Kitchen (incorporating FEASTival cooks), music, stalls and many more interesting things to come.Come and say hello and find out how you can get involved in the Freedom FEASTival . We will be sowing seeds for you to take home to grow for the event and offering veg growing tips for new growers.

Friday 12th May – 1pm to 8pm at the Community Allotment

Event details: Our Freedom FEASTival sponsors Keepmoat, have kindly donated and prepared a part of what will form the new community allotment for the residents of their Hawthorn development in West Hull. During the day we aim to plant Hull’s biggest potato patch, all the potatoes planted on the day will be cooked up at the Freedom Feastival. We will also be planting up seeds and giving out information on how to get involved. A fun event for all the family!

Directions: Find Wheeler street, which off Anlaby Road. Go down Wheeler, take a right onto Ringrose and carry on as far as Callerton St, which is an oval. Go left, follow it and look out for “Edensands Road ” which is where  the event is taking place there. The Hawthornes 1 – 8pm  @ Amy Johnson, Hull, HU3 5EG

Wednesday 10th  May – 1pm to 8pm at East Hull Community Farm

East Hull Community Farm is a registered charity working within the community for the community. www.easthullcommunityfarm.co.uk

Event details: During this family friendly event, we will be constructing a raised bed in the East Hull Community Farm garden to grow veg for the Freedom Feastival.

Directions: East Hull Community Farm is located on Barham Road, Bilton Grange, Hull, HU9 4EE. The farm is situated to the left of Andrew Marvel secondary school.

Monday 8th May – 10am to 3pm @ Arthur’s Organics Walled Garden in Rise

Company (Arthur’s Organics) is Hull’s longest established organic veg box scheme now growing vegetables at Rise. www.arthursorganics.com  

Event details:  Arthur’s Organics have also very kindly pledged some land for the Freedom FEASTival. At this session we will be preparing it for cultivation. More details to follow.

Transport and directions : Car sharing/lifts needed. Rise village is approached from Skirlaugh. Just follow the signposts from the mini roundabout on the A165.

Other information: Please bring food to share for lunch as this will not be provided. Bring sturdy boots, waterproofs and gardening gloves if you have them
